This coming October 17th there will begin in the Spanish National Court the trial for the 35/02 summary. This is the cause that will try 40 militants of the Abertzale Left for their political work done from the Abertzale Left. Once more we have to speak of a political trial.

For two reasons:

• First, because they will try 40 people for their political activity.
• And the second and main reason: because with this trial the Spanish state seeks a political objective.

The political objective of this trial is to act against the scenario open in the Basque Country; to attack and sabotage the process of building peace. And also, this trial will begin on the second anniversary of the Conference of Aiete.

Is this the response of the Spanish state to the Declaration of Aiete? When we are in a new political situation, 19 months after the decision by ETA to put an end to their armed activity, we are in a new political phase and who recurs once and again to actions of the past DOESN'T ENCOURAGE THE BLOCKAGE, BUT THEY ENCOURAGE REGRESSION. THERE IS REGRESSION ON THE PART OF THE SPANISH STATE, BECAUSE THIS STATE DOESN'T HAVE A DEMOCRATIC AGENDA FOR RESOLVING THE PROBLEMS OF THIS COUNTRY. AND IF THIS IS TRUE, THIS COUNTRY, THIS PEOPLE, WILL HAVE TO ACT IN CONSEQUENCE, FROM UNILATERALISM AS A PEOPLE.

This trial is an evident reflection of the attitude maintained by the enemies of peace in the last two years. We say that they are enemies of peace because they are afraid of peace. They are afraid of a scenario of peace where we Basques can decide in freedom.

SORTU and the Abertzale Left are going to continue the path we have taken, from unilateralism, with the diffferent sectors of our people, we will continue taking steps to build this scenario of peace and democratic normalization.

WE WANT A SCENARIO OF PEACE TO BE ABLE TO DECIDE IN FREEDOM, TO DECIDE INDEPENDENCE.

The events of this week have done nothing more but to strengthen our indepentism. Now it is not a question of will but of necessity. We need to go as soon as possible from this anti-democratic state.

Facing this new aggression it is fundamental to take to the streets and respond as a people. We call on all Basques with democratic convictions to show their repulsion to political decisions disguised as legal decisions that don't just attack the Abertzale Left, but they try to condition the future of the Basque Country.
