From SORTU we want to show our satisfaction for the sense of the sentence of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The verdict must mean the immediate release of all of the prisoners who have had their sentences lengthened through the 197/2006 Doctrine and the end of its application.
This sentence isn't a triumph of the Abertzale Left and it is that we don't believe in blueprints of victors or vanquished. This sentence is an achievement for all of us who believe in the respect for human rights, for all of us who demand an end of the current penitentiary policy applied to Basque political prisoners. The sentence confirms the position of the majority of Basque society to demand the change in penitentiary policy as a fundamental milestone to carry forward the peace process and political normalization, it is radically just and conforms to the European Convention on Human Rights.
The sentence of the ECHR supposes the repeal of the 197/2006 Doctrine, it puts a question directly to the Spanish government: the European Court of Human Rights has just told them that they can't apply measures of exception that violate human rights. It is time to take advantage of this sentence give a positive turn to the penitentiary policy, it is time to give an opportunity for peace.
