Gorka Elejabarrieta, responsible for International Relations for Sortu, participated in a day of debate and reflection about the Basque Country and the current political situation which took place at the University of Southern Denmark at their campus in the city of Sonderborg. The day of debate was organized by the Department of Border Region Studies of this university.

In his intervention, Gorka Elejabarrieta, made a short summary of the main events concerning the resolution process that have taken place in the past years, especially the steps taken between 2009 and the present moment. He pointed out the value of three important steps taken in the past months: the step taken by the prisoners' collective (EPPK), the beginning of the putting beyond use of weapons on the part of ETA and the start of the return home of the exiles. Together with that he stressed the value of the recommendations made by the social forum to promote the peace process that in his understanding sets out a path to reach a scenario of a just and lasting peace.

Elejabarrieta expressed his conviction that with the support of the society of the Basque Country and of the International community the process will reach its end and achieve a scenario of resolution in which the citizens of the Basque Country can freely decide their future.

The public which was present expressed their interest in the situation of the Basque Country and their surprise and incomprehension towards the attitude of the Spanish government before this opportunity to achieve a scenario of definitive peace.
