Sortu wishes to congratulate the Greek popular movement and the radical leftist party Syriza for the good results obtained in the first round of the local elections celebrated this past weekend.

These encouraging results demonstrate that Syriza has become for the Greek people a real alternative in power facing the regime of the Troika and their local collaborators. The practical disappearance of national sovereignty and the imposition of a memorandum that promotes extreme measures of austerity against the most disadvantaged has done nothing but reinforce the necessity of an alternative leftist political project that today the Greek people associate with the Syriza coalition.

The popular mobilization in Greece in favour of a change in the regime is a wake-up call for all of us who fight for a radical social change in our respective countries as well as at the European level.

In this sense, we hope that this coming weekend the second round of the Greek elections as well as the elections for the European Parliament demonstrate and confirm that there is a growing critical mass willing to give real and efficient alternatives to the Europe of capital.

Sortu, apart from expressing their joy for the electoral results of Syriza, wants to send greetings of solidarity to all of the youths, women, workers, migrants, students... for being those most affected by the policies of the Troika and express their recognition to the people for their capability of struggle and organization to give a way out to a particularly complex situation.
