The state of Israel has again deployed all of its destructive force against the Palestinian population. A fact, without doubt serious, but not isolated, as is the kidnapping and death of three Israeli citizens, has been the detonator for a new military operation, whose real objective is to intensify the collective punishment that the Palestinian population suffers daily.

This operation, apart from harshly punishing the civilian population of Gaza, could bring about a reedition of the sadly famous "Operation Cast Lead" of the winter of 2008-2009, an operation that left more than 1,400 dead and was denounced as an intent to exterminate Hamas after their victory in the polls in January 2006.

The escalation of police assaults, massive bombings, against one of the most densely populated zones of the planet and the announced ground intervention by the Israeli Defence Forces against Palestine has been presented as an operation of response. However, SORTU understands that more than an exercise of revenge, this military operation isn't more than an aggression that forms a part of the sinister routine of the occupation and is also a part of the roadmap that responds to the objective of bringing the Palestinian population to exhaustion.

And we find ourselves with the obligation to recall that the state of Israel acts, yesterday and today, with the most absolute "excess" with respect to the Palestinian population, the violation of the most elemental norms in the matter of respecting human rights in Palestine has an endemic character.

Diverse International Initiatives, among the most important being the Russell Tribunal for Palestine have denounced in this way. Without mentioning that the repeated condemnations from the Security Council of the United Nations or the Hague Tribunal have fallen one after another on deaf ears.

This makes us confirm that the policy carried out by different states, Western and regional, to promote Israel as a state looking out for their interests, have a direct responsibility in the injustice that the Palestinian people have suffered for decades.

SORTU calls for an end of the attacks and joins the Palestinian call for the international community to give effective protection to the population of Gaza and the West Bank.

At the same time, we reiterate that the final objective of these attacks is to undo the agreement signed this past April between Al-Fatah and Hamas, with the idea of perpetuating the colonization.

On the contrary, SORTU understands that this agreement must be saluted as an advance in a good direction, since it can facilitate the solution to the conflict by offering a unified communication for an inclusive dialogue that brings about the recognition of a Palestinian state.
