Sortu wishes to express its condolences at the death of Albert Reynolds, former Prime Minister of Ireland.

Reynolds was one of the key actors in the the peace process in the north of Ireland. He was one of the endorsers of the Declaration of Downing Street, which guarantees the right to self-determination to the Irish people.

Furthermore, he has also been involved in promoting the resolution of the conflict in the Basque Country. As he did with other Basque partners, he had several meetings with the Abertzale Left (an example of this was the meeting in Ireland with Pernando Barrena and Arnaldo Otegi on February 2007). He is also among the endorsers of the Brussels Declaration.

It is not necesary to say that this is the death of a person who committed to peace for Ireland and the Basque Country. We send to Ireland, especially for those close to Reynolds, our condolences
