Basque pro-independence socialist party Sortu wants to express its satisfaction for the agreement reached in the Catalan Countries to make possible a consultation on the future status of the Catalans.

We want to state that on the very ground of this agreement we cannot find nothing but an exercise of a deep democratic right, it's democracy at its best this agreement deals with.

We call the Spanish government not to obstruct that exercise an let the Catalan people to decide on its own future. The same respect we demand towards the Basques as entitled people to decide on the future of the Basque Country must be asked for in the case of Catalonia.

As people standing for independence of the Basque Country we wish the Catalan people best success in this new challenge and best result for the pro-independence ticket. National independence is the highest status a country can get and that's the status we demand for our country, and consistently the new reality we wish for the Catalans: unrestricted freedom, equality and social justice.
