Sortu offered an homage to Nelson Mandela this past Sunday in Donostia. The following are the words spoken by Hasier Arraiz, president of Sortu.
Sortu wishes to give homage to Nelson Mandela in full, to the complete revolutionary, without hiding any part of his figure, or of his journey. For that, in the first place, we want to remember the people and above all the most vulnerable who have been the main point of his thought and his actions. Until his final days, through his foundation, throughout the world, but especially in Africa, he worked to improve the life of those who lived in the worst conditions and of those who found themselves under the threat of AIDS.
Today, December 10th, the South African city of Johannesburg embraces a massive and emotional act of homage to the former president Nelson Mandela.
Thousands of South Africans and leaders from around the world have assisted at this homage in tribute of Mandela. The place selected to celebrate the ceremony is the FNB stadium of Soweto, where the leader of the movement against Apartheid gave a historical speech after his release from prison.
SORTU appreciates very much the huge work Father Alex Reid C. Ss. R. did in favor of peace, justice and reconciliation in Ireland. We also want to highlight that he offered his expertise in the Irish peace process to help bringing a peace scenario in the Basque Country.
We can undoubtedly say that the new political situation here as regard to the peace and normalization process has a lot to thank to Alex Reid and those that stood and still stand in favor of dialogue, peace and justice in the Basque Country.
